Research Narrative:
Dr. Garg is conducting several studies that will improve the management of patients with diabetes. His clinical research is focused on hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in hospitalized patients. He is also studying ways to improve clinical outcomes of patients with poorly controlled diabetes undergoing elective surgery. Dr. Garg is also involved in research on the mechanisms of insulin resistance and cardiovascular complications of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. A few examples of his current research projects include 1) Diabetes management for surgical patients: a team approach, 2) Safety and efficacy of saxagliptin for glycemic control in non-critically ill hospitalized patients, 3) Role of mineralocorticoid receptor in insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease, 4) Acute effects of the food preservative propionic acid on glucose metabolism in humans.
